"So... You're trying to tell me that... We have these 'superpowers'?" Asked a perplexed Chiaki.
The gamer girl looked down on the damp sidewalk, the tip of her finger resting on her lips as she thought long and hard about her unorthodox situation.
"Well, more or less... Yes." Nico rubbed the back of his neck, his eyes landing on her own narrowed ones. He pressed his lips into a thin line and shrugged. "I guess you can say that we're rejected superheroes. I mean, we don't really have anyone to protect." He heaves a sigh, his hands patting the sides of his pants before sliding his fingers into the pockets.
"Well, we DID save Chiaki. Riiiight?" Komaeda snickered, one hand pulling up to pat Nico on the back.
"Yes, right and don't touch me." Nico growled almost instantly after the touch.
"Awww, come on Nico! Are you still mad about me pushing you out of that one vent? You know, the one that made all the guards run after you and--"
"YES. EXACTLY. I'M STILL MAD." Nico pushed up his glasses in frustration as he turned to the white haired maniac. Komaeda in response puts up his hands in defense and laughs.
Chiaki looked up to see the boys were arguing loudly, Nico was grabbing a fistful of hair from the other and shaking it violently. She just stared silently, her expression almost dazed.
She had this power... This... Persona.
It was someone or... someTHING by the name of Hajime Izuru.
The cold crimson eyes... the long raven dyed hair floating in the blue flames erupting from behind her...
She closed her eyes and remembered what happened.
She distinctly remembered the surge of power and anger that was boiling up in her as Joshua, the God of the castle, was trashtalking about how stupid Nico and Komaedas' false hope towards saving Chiaki was. She lashed out, crying inside her barred prison as she felt a burning sensation melt on her brain.
She could remember the feel of the sweat dripping from her face and the chills running back and forth from her spine. Her hands were trembling and her mind was as unclear as glass on a foggy day. She could hear Hajime.
'What are you waiting for Chiaki...?'
'I believe you can't win this game unless you restart and use a.... boost...'
'Perhaps, I can help you with that upgrade...'
'Now, call forth your power...'
'Let loose the black bride inside the heart of good...! Release the criminal mind of yours and save them...!'
Her legs shook and her vision got blurry, but her mind was set on the words she yelled out in desperation as a cold kind of feeling coiled on the top of her face.
She held it, found the edges and started to pull. Writhing and shrieking, she could hear the white noise ringing in her ears. She pulled and pulled, she began hearing the sound of flesh and stretch coming from it, bit by bit, as blood leaked from her face and onto her hands.
She... pulled it out?
No, she knew what she wanted to do.
So she yelled out, her eyes dead set on Joshua.
"Come forth! HAJIME!"
"Chiaki? Hey, Chiaki?" She snapped out of her daze and realized the two of them stopped arguing minutes ago... and the fact that she was drooling, she shook her head a bit and wiped the side of her mouth with her backhand swiftly.
"Ah... hey hey, what's wrong guys?" She tilted her head, looking at them both with her usual blank eyes.
Komaeda pats her head, a smile tugging on his lips. "Well, we thought you were sleeping with your eyes open again. You do that a lot in class." He says this with a-matter-of-factly tone in his voice.
She sighs, her head droops down and onto her retreating feet beneath her. She stared at the dirtied white of her shoes and muttered, "I can do it..."
"Hm? What was that, Chiaki?" Nico asked, getting a little closer to her with a bewildered look. His frames slowly moving down the bridge of his nose.
Chiaki looked up, an alien look of determination on her face as her eyes were glinting with will and her mouth was pulled into a pout, "I can do it too, Nico. I can fight along side you both and... I don't want to let that Joshua guy in our class get away with whatever he's doing to his friends."
"To Shiki and Sally?"
"No--Komaeda, it's Shiki and Neku. Sally is Neku's pet name for Joshua."
"Ah, riiiiight." Komaeda said, his head bobbing up and down, as if he understood it completely.
Nico turned his gaze to the petite girl, her hair was damp, so were the edges of her shoulders from the light drizzle of rain. He furrowed his brows, "Chiaki.... Komaeda and I still aren't so sure as to how this power works. I mean..." He scrathes his head, the feel of cold droplets of rain and his own hair brushing against his fingertips.
He coughed from his throat, and blinked. "Chiaki, this is dangerous. You know this. I don't wanna see you getting hurt."
He instantly regretted what he said.
Don't wannna see her getting hurt? What was he, her father? They just met like, what, four days ago? And now he thinks he can boss her around?
"I understand, Nico."
"Huh?" He blurted out, albeit confused and rather surprised. His eyes widen at her stunning resolution of an answer and expression.
She was smiling.
"Nico, I understand that it's dangerous but... I can be of use to you both. Don't you think Joshua will be a tough battle to fight? I mean, he's a God there. You and Komaeda can only do so much so... I want to help."
Her hands balled into fists next to her, she stood straight in hopes to give off a serious aura but she still looked petite. Though, he did get her message just from how she projected it.
"Chiaki..." Nico heard Komaeda say, there was a hint of worry that Nico found rather weird coming from him.
The guy thought, he eyes looking away from her for a moment before thinking.
I mean, he did have an itty bitty crush on the girl, sure. But that doesn't mean he'd risk spending time with her in a dangerous area.
He turned to look at her again.
'Damn it, she looks cute when she's mad.' Nico thought, those eyes of betrayal and adorableness will be the death of him, he swears.
He sighs. "Alright. Fine, but you need to always stay behind me and Komaeda. You never know what could happened." Nico warns, his finger up to show he was 'serious'.
Komaeda laughs next to him, "Watch Chiaki kick so much ass." He states, chuckling fits as he holds his stomach.
Chiaki gave a nod, "I'll do my best not to get in the way, Nico."
Nico was about to smack Komaeda upside his head but turned to Chiaki, "Oh, well--" A tint of red rising to his cheeks, "--No need to be that formal, I know you'll do just as good as this looney."
"That's cause I'm bananas! Bananas in battle that is." He shrugs off the look on Nico and snickers, a hand waving up dismissively.
Nico stopped for a moment, then thought. "Hey, Chiaki... What was the name of your Persona again?"
As he asked this, they began to walk down the drizzling sidewalk, the faint light of a sunset drowning the sky with a faint mix of orange and dark grey from the rain.
Chiaki followed, pulling the kittycat bag strap on her shoulders a bit tighter, "Um... It was Hajime Izuru. I've never heard of him before..." Her words ww
"Hajime?" Komaeda echoed, his hands digging into his jackets pocket. His face morphed into something of a serious expression, which was a bit odd for him to have.
"Did he mention anything? Like how Komaeda and I had? They were talking to us in our heads and all right before our 'Awakening'. It was as if they were on reverb or something." Nico explained, his hand instictively pushing his frames upward to set it back on its place.
"He did mention something. He called me out to release my power... He called me a 'Black Bride'." She explained, her hands moving up on each side of her arms and gave it a gentle rub.
"Black Bride?" He copied, the two terms seeming weird when said outloud. "I mean, when your clothes changed, your outfit was somewhat like a wedding dress. Well, the bottom half of it that is." He squints, biting his bottom lip in thought.
"Come to think of it, Nico. Didn't you two call each other by weird nicknames?"
"Codenames actually..." Komaeda piped in.
"Why though?" She tilts her head, looking up to Nico on her left then to Komaeda on her right.
The boys exchanged glances with an unsure look on their face, as if saying "Should we tell her?"
To be honest, they had no reason whatsoever to NOT tell her. She's already in on it anyway.
Komaeda was the first to explain, a light hand resting on her shoulder, ready to tell their story.
The three walked casually down the street, the light fog through the air flowed coldly and silently, like a fish swimming through a calm river.
